Don Lyle grew up in the small college town of Auburn Alabama where many of his parent’s friends were artists. He spent his days playing in his father’s chemistry lab and in various art studios. At Auburn he studied Architecture. It was here also that he was exposed to photography. He spent many years exploring the craft and art of photography on his own and eventually received a BFA at Utah State University where he studied with photographer Craig Law. Along the way Don received numerous awards and assistantships. Notably from the Friends of Photography founded by Ansel Adams and from the Anderson Ranch Arts program in Aspen Colorado. Don also worked as a photographer and video editor. He has been nominated for several Emmys and was awarded an Emmy for his story City Sounds , which chronicles studio musicians in Las Vegas Nevada.
